ESTELLA LOUISE MOWATT OGILVIE

Estella followed Ma (Victoria) to Panama from Jamaica - not really sure who followed whom or what year they went to Panama, but she was in Colon, Panama with Ma and presumably a sister - Hellen. Estella got married in 1910 to Joseph (William) Ogilvie (1893-1977), a man from St Thomas, Jamaica and had a daughter named Eleanor Louise in 1915.

Estella - 30 years old and her daughter, Elenor - 3 years old came to the USA on the SS Tivives on November 3, 1919. They went to Harlem. See lines 7&8 below.

They did not make the 1920 census but they did make the 1930.  They were still living in Harlem at 300 West 147th St where they rented an apartment for $48 per month with Joseph (William), a painter,  see lines 90-92.

By 1940 they moved to a different apartment - 677 Lenox Ave paying now $37 per month rent, but Joseph (William) was out of the picture.  Not sure if he died or left the family even though the census says widowed but they did had a lodger named Bertram.  See lines 61-63.

Estella Louise (Mowatt) Ogilvie applied to become a US citizen in 1936.

The 1950 census will be released in 2023 but I do know That Estella died in 1943. She was a dressmaker in a garment factory at least until 1940 where it says she was unemployed.  I can only assume she was ill by this time.

KNOWN CHILDREN OF MARY ELIZABETH RABY MOWATT

Mary Raby Mowatt gave birth to 12 children and 4 died before adulthood, Ma was the 2nd oldest enlarged for your convenience. I do not know what happened to the ones that lived to adulthood other than her 1st born - Estella (more about her later):

INTRODUCTION

 Hi Family,

I am starting this again but in chronological order.  So far I have been able to go as far back as Mary Elizabeth (Raby) Mowatt who is Victoria (Vicky) Emmaline (Mowatt) Quamina's mother.  I do not have much information about Pa (Wilfred Benjamin Quamina) that will have to come later.

Hold on to your hats folks and enjoy!!

ESTELLA LOUISE OGILVIE - 1887 or 1889 - ?

Estella followed Ma to Panama - not really sure about that but she was in Panama with Ma, got married in 1910 to William Ogilvie (1893-1977), a man from St Thomas and had a daughter named Eleanor Louise in 1915.

William and Pa left Panama in 1918 to come to NY and in 1919 Estella followed with her 4 year old daughter, Louise.  They went to Harlem to stay with Hellen Mowatt on W147th Street - see lines 7 & 8

After that they settled in Harlem on Lenox Avenue almost around the corner from W147th Street.
Then in 1938 Estella and Louise applied for citizenship see picture of Louise:
